Argos and Amazon shoppers are going crazy over a £56 oven that costs less than a deep fryer.

The British want to keep their bills as low as possible as energy prices continue to rise. The energy crisis has caused bills to skyrocket, and now the smallest changes can lead to the biggest changes.
Many people have turned to the air fryer as a solution. But now buyers swear that halogen ovens are a “great” alternative to deep fryers, and at a price that’s well below current prices. The £56 sale at Argos received hundreds of reviews, with one woman saying it was “the best buy ever”.
She said: “There have been several halogen ovens in the past and this one is better than all of them. It’s digital, the wire can be removed from the cover, it works great and saves a lot of fuel because you’re only heating a small area instead of one”
Another said: “Great stove. Very easy to use, very efficient, does not require much electricity to operate. Suitable for cooking from scratch or freshly prepared (for example, for baked potatoes).”
A third commented “Just got this to replace my old oven but bought the same one, we use it every day for everything I never use in my oven, it’s quick and easy, the Gram library is perfect, now it only requires energy and we can still enjoy all the food we love, but not the cost of fuel or even a fried dinner.”
Amazon has a cheaper halogen oven available for purchase. The £49 Imperial Premium Black 17L Halogen Convection Cooker has proven to be popular with customers and has received thousands of five-star reviews.
One 5-star reviewer said: “Versatile, big enough to bake, the potatoes are delicious. It comes with two stands and a deep fryer. It would be nice to have some instructions on how to use the details provided, the YouTube video show.” I said that there is also an extension ring, as a beginner, I do not know. Overall, I think this is an economical alternative to traditional ovens. ”
Another wrote: “Very affordable deep fryer, well made, digital controls are really useful and easy to use. We made two Sunday roasts for 4 including pork and crispy roast. Potatoes and fried vegetables, they are in stock. (plus a few microwave-steamed vegetables). Also easy to clean. Nothing to complain about. We need to learn a little, but not much, we will have to buy more accessories – But learning is part of the fun, and we We are happy. Now we are trying different things. If there is not a large group of people around us, our old oven will be superfluous…”
A halogen oven consists of a glass bowl with a lid, inside which is a fan and a halogen lamp. When switched on, the halogen lamp emits a beam of infrared radiation to generate heat. Fans circulate hot air over and around food for cooking.
A Utilita study from August 2022 shows that using an air fryer can save up to £279.66 per year. The average cost of an air fryer is £55.91/year, a gas stove is £121.06/year and a rice cooker is £335.57/year.
Despite the differences, it’s worth noting that halogen ovens are still about 75% cheaper to run than standard electric ovens, meaning you can still save a few pennies.
