Are you looking for the best deals on Prime Day fryers in October 2022 and we have them. In fact, we think you should opt for a convection oven, which is a “fryer” and then something else (more on that below). But we also have great deals on traditional basket fryers. Also, be sure to check out all of the other Prime Day Round 2 (or Prime Early Access, as they call the October edition sale) kitchen deals we’ve highlighted, including KitchenAid, All-Clad, and coffee makers.
At Epicurious, we’ve been skeptical about deep fryers for a long time. Technically, there is no such thing as a deep fryer. The name is really a good marketing ploy. Actually, “air frying” is just convection cooking. In fact, we are big fans of convection cooking. In fact, food becomes crispier when hot air is circulated through the oven by a fan. Plus it cooks faster. Air fryers at their best are essentially just convection ovens on a countertop – which is great. Mini convection ovens heat up very quickly, increasing the available oven space and making it easier to cook small batches over the weekend. We just recommend that you choose a tabletop oven that can “air fry” rather than a traditional “deep fryer” that looks like an egg and has a pull-out basket. This is because a real oven provides more space, and with more space, your food can spread rather than pile up, ensuring it actually gets crispy.
But let’s get straight to the point: you’re not deep frying anything, so you shouldn’t expect your food to taste fried. Indeed, in convection ovens with hot air circulation inside the oven, food is cooked faster and more evenly than in ovens without convection. Indeed, this air circulation can make crispy chicken wings, chicken thighs, potatoes, and even tofu. If you bury a chicken in flour and fry it in hot oil, it will give you the full frying experience, which is not true (we want to avoid frying cleanup, for example).
So free your name! When you start thinking of an air fryer as a simple little convection oven (and managing any expectations you have about making “healthy” fried foods), it becomes a useful tool. It’s actually used by professional bakers to make small portions of cookies or cakes, and we spoke to a cookbook author who thinks an air fryer is a great tool for making crispy fried vegetables.
If you often cook dinner for one or two people and don’t want to turn on the oven to save energy (or to keep your kitchen cool in the summer), an air fryer is the perfect kitchen gadget for you. What to do if you have an unreliable oven in a rented house? The best air fryer is a great solution.
Below we will keep track of all the best Prime Early Access air fryer deals. Keep in mind that Prime Early Access is only available to Prime members, but if you don’t have a Prime membership, don’t worry – we’re also keeping an eye on any competing Prime Day sales in other stores. (If you’re more interested in deep frying, read our guide to the best deep fryers here.)
As far as we know, the best Prime Early Access deals come from our product test winners like the Phillips Premium Air Fryer, which has been #1 for two years in a row. While we think it’s worth buying even at its (fairly high) full price, it becomes even more of a must when it’s on sale for nearly $100 off. It’s still one of the most expensive air fryers on this list, but sometimes you really get your money’s worth.
What is so great about this particular fryer? Well, first of all, it is larger than other models. One disadvantage of air fryers is that they tend to have a very small cooking chamber, which means that if you want to make fries for the whole family, some will come out soft and fluffy, while others will come out soft and fluffy. It’s very clear. It’s about to burn out because the air can’t circulate. Not so with Phillips, which cooks a whole bunch of chips to golden crispy perfection. It’s also great for warming baby chicken feet and roasting crispy chickpeas and vegetables, among other things.
The machine also features an easy-to-use digital interface, fast pre-heating and a helpful cookbook with cooking times and temperatures for various outdoor dishes. It will take up a little space on your countertop, but we think it’s worth it.
Instant Pots are no longer just Instant Pots (in fact, they haven’t been for a while). Instant makes all kinds of deep fryers, not to mention coffee makers and all kinds of kitchen appliances. The company also offers a range of air-roasting multifunctional ovens such as the Vortex Pro and Omni (see below for sales of these models).
The Vortex is just a deep fryer, not an oven, but it takes up less space than the Vortex Plus, so it’s a great option if you’re space-constrained. In fact, it’s such a good option that it wins our budget pick for the best air fryer without an oven. It outperforms previous models in this category because its basket shape makes it easy to distribute food in the oven, making everything crispier. It also contains helpful tips and instructions for turning and shaking food.
Here’s another air fryer from one of our favorite appliance brands. Breville smart ovens are a welcome addition to the kitchen, not only because of their beautiful stainless steel finish, but also because they are loaded with high-tech features. The Element IQ sensor detects the food you’re cooking and regulates the temperature to prevent the food from sticking. The controls are nice, with knobs for adjusting the time and temperature range, and several presets including keep warm, toast, toast, dehydrate, and more. This oven also features a 2-speed convection fan, also known as the “super convection” feature. This means fast and even heat distribution. While its sister oven, the Breville Joule oven, won our oven reviews, if air roasting is your primary concern, this model is for you.
Ninja products don’t always shine in our product tests, but in our fryer reviews and buying guides, our product reviewers found the Ninja AF101 digital fryer to be the best value for money fryer in years. The pot works (before it was recently usurped by the Instant model above), which means it’s a great Amazon Prime Day air fryer deal. It has a 4 liter capacity, a simple design, and gives a batch of french fries a “wonderful crisp”. (If you’re a fan of Ninja kitchen appliances, Amazon has plenty of early access Ninja Prime offerings.)
Equipped with features like a digital touch screen, spit and dehydrator, the Instant Pot Vortex Pro takes up less space on your countertop than the Omni – if you’re looking for a combination, we recommend this Instant Pot oven model.
The top model in the Instant class, the Omni didn’t fare well in our product reviews, producing dry toast and uneven (albeit quick) baked cookies. More about it here.
The Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 is essentially a larger version of the AF101 air fryer (it actually looks like two of these machines are crammed together). However, we were less impressed than its smaller version. Since it has two chambers, it claims to be able to cook two different foods at the same time at different temperatures – and it did very well in our tests. However, it also claims to be able to handle up to two pounds of potatoes and french fries, but in our tests we got unevenly cooked, raw, and burnt results when we tried to cook that many. It works well in small batches with some limitations. We haven’t tested the Ninja Foodi 12-in-1, but since it’s an 8-liter fryer, we thought it would solve some of the problems we had with the smaller Foodi 9-in-1. We think the AF101 is good value for money, but if you like the dual temperature idea, go for the Foodi.
Our friends at Bon Appétit use the Cosori Airfryer to develop specialty recipes such as spiced potato wedges. This one doubles as a tabletop oven as well as a dehydrator and skewer. If you’re interested in this trend and want to try homemade fries without using a real air fryer, this is a great air fryer because if it turns out you’re not a deep fryer, you can still use it to bake bread.
