Best Buy recalls 772,000 air fryers after more than 100 caught fire, burned or melted

Best Buy is recalling 772,000 air fryers and air fryer ovens sold in the U.S. and Canada after more than 100 incidents of the products catching fire, burning or melting, including one that injured children.
Best Buy said in a notice issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Thursday that it had received complaints from 68 U.S. residents and 36 Canadians about overheating fryers and ovens.The retailer said the report included two injuries – one involving a child’s leg and seven involving minor property damage.
People should stop using the recalled air fryers and air fryer ovens and return them to Best Buy for a refund in the form of credits used at Best Buy.The customer will receive a store credit of $50 or the amount on the purchase receipt, if higher.The retailer says you can get a $50 credit without a receipt.
This recall involves Insignia Digital Air Fryers, Insignia Analog Air Fryers and Insignia Air Fryer Ovens, model numbers: NS-AF32DBK9, NS-AF32MBK9, NS-AF50MBK9, NS-AF53DSS0, NS-AF53MSS0, NS-AF55DBK9, NS-AFO6DBK1 and NS-AFO6DSS1.
The brand name Insignia is located on the top or front of each unit, and there is a rating label at the bottom to identify the make and model.
The recalled fryers were manufactured in China and imported by Best Buy in Richfield, Minnesota, and sold for $30 to $150 in Best Buy stores and online from November 2018 to February 2022.
Best Buy said it sold about 635,000 recalled products in the United States and another 137,000 in Canada.
