East Greenbush man convicted of 2020 pan attack

TROY, NY (NEWS10) — An East Greenbush man was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison for assaulting someone with a frying pan in February 2020. Ernest Heartfield, 47, was convicted of assault on May 16, 2022. Weekly jury trial.
Hatfield was sentenced to 15 years in state prison, followed by five years of supervised post-release for first-degree assault, and seven years for second-degree assault. These terms and conditions will apply simultaneously.
“Efforts by the East Greenbush Police Department to gather critical evidence were particularly instrumental in the success of this case, as the victim turned himself in and ultimately refused to testify in court,” District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly said. She believes Assistant District Attorney Spencer Lane is in charge of the prosecution.
