Maytag MER7700LZ stand-alone electric stove review

The Maytag MER7700LZ ($1,079.99 at Best Buy) is an affordable standalone electric stove that wowed us in some areas and chilled us in others. The airfryer setting is impressive, the fries are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and the stovetop is spacious and versatile. But aside from these features, the MER7700LZ is barely distinguishable from the competing electric ranges we tested in the sub-$1,000 category. Baking uniformity was uneven, preheat rate was below average, outside of fryer mode, and range was sharp.

Built-in fryer mode tends to be subpar across the range and in our testing often results in an unappealing combination of burnt and frozen fries.
So, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the MER7700LZ fryer works well. We made a batch of fries from this fry basket range and they came out crispy on the outside and soft and hot on the inside. In short: perfect.
The MER7700LZ doesn’t have all the features and amenities, but it does a great job with some features. The hob is versatile and roomy. The two front burners have a double ring so you can use any size pot on the front.
There’s also plenty of space throughout the range, and the positioning of the burners means you can quickly heat four separate pots or pans at the same time.
As a general rule, electric hobs have drawbacks, but at least they are easy to clean. The MER7700LZ doesn’t have a heavy lifting grate or bulky gas burners and flame arresters to worry about. Just wipe the smooth surface and move on.
There is a big difference between cookies baked on the bottom shelf and cookies baked on the top.
A true convection zone circulates and exhausts hot air throughout the oven cavity. In theory, this will lead to faster cooking and even results. However, the Maytag MER7700LZ oven is not quite suitable for this.
We baked several batches of cookies at the same time using the convection baking mode. At first glance, the resulting cookies baked evenly, but the grilled cookies on the bottom baked much darker than the top.
If you are planning to use this oven, we recommend placing harder items on the bottom and delicate items on top.
We have noticed that electric ovens, especially those with hidden elements, often take longer to preheat than gas ovens. Maytag MER7700LZ is no exception, even by electrical standards it takes a long time to warm up.
The standard oven setting takes less than 12 minutes to reach the set temperature, which is about 2 minutes slower than the average 10 minutes for an electric oven. The convection setting was slower and lasted 15 minutes.
The Maytag MER7700LZ has a one-year limited parts and labor warranty. In addition, Maytag will provide certain parts (excluding labor) for an additional nine years.
The Maytag MER7700LZ has an average user rating of 4.25 out of 5 stars across four major retailers. Users love the airfryer mode and the easy-to-clean hob. Most reviews are positive, but some owners don’t like the flimsy bottom drawer.
If you don’t already have a dedicated fryer and can ignore the lack of power and slightly uneven baking, the Maytag MER7700LZ is a great choice.
The hob is versatile and a pleasure to use, and the air fryer mode surprised us with great results.
While this all sounds good in theory, the Maytag MER7700LZ still pales in comparison to feature-packed models like the Samsung NE63A6511SS, which offer better roasting results for the same price.
